About Windsor, Ontario
Windsor is the southernmost city in Canada and is located in Southwestern Ontario. It is within Essex County, Ontario, although administratively separated from the county government.
Windsor, known as The City of Roses, is across the Detroit River and south of Detroit, Michigan in the United States.
Windsor tourist attractions include Caesars Windsor, a lively downtown, Little Italy, the Art Gallery of Windsor, the Odette Sculpture Park, and Ojibway Park and The Capital Theatre in downtown Windsor. Chrysler's Canada HQ is in downtown Windsor.
Each summer, Windsor co-hosts the two-week-long Windsor-Detroit International Freedom Festival, which culminates in a gigantic fireworks display that celebrates Canada Day and US Independence Day. The fireworks display is among the world's largest and is held on the final Wednesday in June over the Detroit River between the two downtowns. Each year, the event attracts over a million spectators to both sides of the riverfront.
Windsor is home to the University of Windsor, which is Canada's southernmost university. It is a research oriented,comprehen-sive university with a student population of 16,000 full-time graduate and undergraduate students. Now entering its most ambitious capital expansion since its founding in 1963, the University of Windsor opened its Medical Education Building, which houses the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
Windsor has often been the place where many metro Detroiters find what is forbidden in the United States. With a minimum legal drinking age of 21 in Michigan and 19 in Ontario, a number of 19 and 20-year-old Americans frequent Windsor's bars. The city also became a gaming attraction with Caesars Windsor's opening in 1994, five years before casinos opened in Detroit.

On cold winter mornings, Dr. Hanle Yap, is often reminded of the long road he has traveled. None can be as stark of a contrast to the peaceful flurry of snow and burst of cold air of Windsor mornings as the loud wake-up calls of jeepney horns blasting through the hot, humid Manila sunrise. As the eldest of three children, Hanle, has been ingrained with a strong sense of family and accountability, principles that have guided his journey thus far.
Not many people know that Dr. Yap’s first degree was in food technology from the University of the Philippines (UP). A twist of fate coupled with pure determination,
he decided to go into medicine. In 1994, he graduated from the UP College of Medicine giving him the opportunity to serve his countrymen during his internship at the Philippine General Hospital. In pursuit of excellence, he completed his residency and geriatric fellowship at the University of Hawaii (2000).
It was in 2000 that Hanle and his wife, Carolyn, decided to make the big move to Canada settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Here, Dr. Yap was introduced to Canadian health care while fulfilling his geriatric fellowship at the University of Manitoba.
Before finally settling in Windsor, Ontario, Dr. Yap and his family spent five years in Leamington. Five years was enough to make the decision to move difficult and poignant. Today, Hanle, his wife and two kids have made their home in Windsor.
Dr. Hanle Yap’s professional success as a clinician dedicated to lifelong learning
and service is only overshadowed by his personal achievement as a family man devoted to being present on all of his children’s recitals and birthdays.
Dr. Yap has always maintained ties with the Filipino community in all the areas he has practiced in. He would like to extend this same sentiment to the Filipino community in the Windsor-Essex region. His office is open to those with any health-related concerns. Contact Number. (519) 252-9861 x 3.
Elaine was born in Baguio City, the summmer capital of the Philippines, on March 14, 1984 to Leo & Grace Manlongat. She spent her early childhood in Quezon City. She attended Maryknoll College before immigrating to Canada in 1992 with her parents and younger brother, Glenn.
In Canada, she attended HJ Lassaline elementary school, St. Joseph’s High School and went to Wayne State University for her undergrad and Pharmacy school.
Elaine’s two mottos in life are: “Carpe diem”, because she believes that everyone should live their lives to the fullest and seize the day; and “Give everything you do a hundred percent, if not, it is not worth doing.” She believes that everything can be achieved through hard work, and even though most of the time achieving certain personal goals require a lot of sacrifi ce, everything you out into the world should reflect your sincere efforts. At the end of the day, even if things don’t work out, at least you can say that you tried.
Elaine shared these thoughts. “Going through Pharmacy school was strenuous but my parents instilled in us hard work and perseverance and that school was always top priority. I couldn’t have gone through all my experiences in life this far without my family.
So my advice to all the younger Filipinos in the community is that dreams can come true if you put the effort and allow others to help and guide you along the way and always make sure that God comes first”.
Elaine now works as a Pharmacist in a downtown drugstore in Windsor, Ontario.
A three hour car ride from Manila to Bagac, Bataan
takes you to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is a living museum of Philippine customs and traditions. Currently twenty-seven houses, such as noble class mansions (Historical Principalia), House of Stone (Bahay na Bato) and Wooden Stilt houses, are located here. These once old and decaying architectural homes have been transported from all over the country and have been painstakingly rebuilt to their original splendor. >>> MORE....

Endowed with a variety of picturesque landscapes,
Davao’s topography dazzles: fruit plantations and orchid farms mantle volcanofed hills and valleys. Virgin forests nurture rare wildlife. Just as enchanting is its brilliant tapestry of harmony, woven from the diverse cultural threads of its people.
In Davao, the contemporary fuses with the traditional as migrant settlers from all over the country co- exist in peace with a fairly large expatriate community and
numerous ethnic tribes who continue to live as they did centuries ago. >>> MORE....
